Choose File > New to create a new image window. |

Specify the size of your image, make the Resolution 72 pixels/inch, select Transparent for the Contents, name it, and click OK. |

Choose the Custom Shape tool . |

Choose a custom shape from the Shape pop-up palette in the options bar.
The arrow shape works well for animated GIFs.

Click the Color selection box in the options bar, and select a color using the Color Picker. |

Click and drag to create the shape in your document. |

Choose Layer> Duplicate Layer and click OK. |

Choose Image > Transform> Free Transform. |

Click and drag around the image in a counter-clockwise direction, stopping when the shape has been rotated 90 degrees.
To rotate the image, position the pointer outside the border - the pointer turns into a curved, two-sided arrow - and drag.

Repeat steps 6 through 8 until there are four layers, each rotated 90 degrees from the previous layer. |

Choose File> Save For Web. |

Make sure that the Optimized File Format selected is GIF, and that Transparency, Animate, and Loop boxes are checked. |

Preview each frame in the animation by clicking the forward/backward arrows in the Animation box. |

Click OK, and choose a name and location for you GIF animation. |
